Aid agency GOAL are inviting people of all ages to try and score a penalty against a famous face at Fr. Griffin Park from 12 pm to 5 pm, to coincide with the final leg of the Volvo Ocean Race.

“This is a one-day, family fun event so we want people of all ages to come down and enjoy the fun,” says GOAL’s Maura Lennon. “It’s an ideal opportunity for under age soccer, GAA and other teams to practice their penalty-taking and see who can score the most goals!”

Apart from the aforementioned names, Irish woman’s soccer international, Dora Gorman; goalkeeping coach and ex-League of Ireland player, Adrian Cronin, and former Galway United star, Jimmy Nolan have all signed up for a stint between the sticks.
GOAL is also hoping to convince a number of other stars to make a surprise appearance on the day.
All the celebrity goalkeepers will be pre-scheduled to keep goal for between 15 and 20 minutes, to allow members of the public to choose who they would like to try to score against. Penalty-takers are being invited to make a small donation towards GOAL to take part.

“To be associated with GOAL and to have an event like this highlight the great work that this charity does is fantastic,” commented Micheline McNamara, CEO of ‘Let’s Do It Galway’.
“The difference GOAL makes to the lives of children and their families that have nothing is huge. We are delighted to support GOAL and we are sure this is going to be a ‘kickin’ event.”
